Health care facilities and services

The Big River Health Centre is a fully integrated facility which is part of the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region.

The attached medical clinic is leased to two physicians, whose office hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Health Centre has nine acute care beds, 1 palliative and 2 respite beds, and 28 longterm care beds. It also houses offices for community-based staff including home care, public health and visiting therapies. A dietician is also available.

The Health Centre provides the following services to Big River and area:

• Emergency services;
• Acute care;
• X-ray;
• Laboratory services;
• Physician services;
• Longterm care;
• Home care;
• Palliative care;
• Community public health services;
• Therapy services including physio and occupational therapies.

Ambulance service is provided by Big River Ambulance Care Ltd.

The community of Big River also has a group of trained First Responders.

Prescription Works Pharmacy is also located at the Health Centre, and is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
