Welcome to Big River,
central to all that nature has to offer

Big River captures The Spirit of the Northern Lakes, and is situated on Highway 55, 140 km northwest of Prince Albert.

It is a beautiful town, central to all that nature has to offer. You can fish right off the end of Main Street, where there are also campsites available for those who like listening to the water and the loons.

The visitor information booth is located at #308 First Street, and is open year round to help visitors coming to our community. It is financially supported by Big River & District Economic Development Inc., Big River and the local and district Chamber of Commerce.

The Town of Big River has grown over the years and offers a multitude of services for both business and pleasure. There is a regional park with electrified sites and a shower house.

Many businesses cater to the tourists' needs, including gas stations, cafes and motels/hotels, and much more. There are also healthcare facilities, an RCMP detachment, financial institutions, a library and museum.

The Town Council is extremely proud of the fund raising abilities and volunteers of the community. It is to our ambitious community members that we have a recreational centre, nursing home, health centre, regional park, ski hill, snowmobile trails, ATV trails, hiking paths, golf course and many other amenities that were spearheaded by volunteers and built with local contributions.

The natural abundance of lakes, forest and wildlife makes the area a tourist delight. Depending on their needs, visitors can utilize one of the many campsites, resorts or outfitters for a great vacation.

To add to the winter fun there is recreational hockey, broomball, figure skating and curling which keeps our recreation centre busy all winter long.

Or come outdoors and try our ski hill, Ski Timber Ridge, snowmobile trails and ice fishing.

So much to do and so little time.

The area is an all-season paradise. Whether you are a fisherman, camper, sports enthusiast or just want some R&R, Big River has something for everyone. Check our events calendar for a complete lineup of major events in our community.

Come spend some time with us. We're sure you'll want to come back.

In Big River, you can stand right at the end of Main Street and catch fish!

Main Street ends at the dock which juts out into Cowan Lake, and the fishing is good. In summer the dock is a popular place for fishing or launching boats; in winter the lake is a great place for ice fishing.
